Getting Kids to Listen | Speech Therapy | Child Communication | Parenting Strategies
Are you tired of repeating yourself, dealing with meltdowns, or wondering why your child still isn’t listening? Are you worried about speech delays, language development, behavior challenges, or communication struggles?
Welcome to The Language of Play podcast—where speech therapy meets real-life parenting.
I’m Dinalynn Rosenbush—mom, grandma, Speech-Language Pathologist, parent coach, and host of a top-ranked parenting podcast helping overwhelmed parents build calmer homes, stronger relationships, and better communication with their children.
This podcast helps parents understand behavior as communication so they can support listening, emotional regulation, speech, and connection in everyday life.
In each episode, you’ll learn practical, brain-based strategies to:
• Help kids listen without constant power struggles
• Support speech and language development naturally
• Reduce tantrums, whining, and communication frustration
• Build connection, emotional safety, and confidence
• Understand speech delays, language processing, and child behavior
• Use simple communication tools that work in everyday moments
These strategies support typically developing children, late talkers, dual-language learners, neurodivergent children, and kids with speech or language delays.
Each episode is filled with simple, playful tools you can start using right away—because communication growth happens best through connection, play, and everyday interaction.
If you’re longing for calmer parenting, deeper connection, more listening, and a home filled with confidence, curiosity, and communication, you’re in the right place.
So grab a cup of coffee, bring your real-life parenting questions, and come explore The Language of Play with me.

ABOUT THE GUEST:
Former DC attorney, Daniela Feldhausen realized that her true passion is teaching kids to read. As the founder of Kids Up Reading Tutors, she’s built a team of 20 specialists who help students all across the country overcome dyslexia, dysgraphia and other reading challenges.
Their approach is evidence-based and efficient. Students typically get caught up to their classmates in months rather than years. This accelerated progress stems from rigorous application of current research into how students learn to read and spell, sometimes referred to as the "Science of Reading."
They’ve developed a structured literacy program that is then tailored to each student's specific needs, combining phonological awareness, Orton-Gillingham-based phonics and systematic spelling instruction. Their one-on-one virtual sessions create a judgment-free environment where struggling readers develop both skills and confidence—turning "I HATE Reading" into "I LOVE Reading!"

Hey Friends~
When we talk to our kids, we use words that represent whole concepts all the time. We do it so spontaneously that it’s difficult to communicate without using such words. When our kids don’t have a good repertoire of concept - type words, it makes it difficult for them to do as told, express themselves, or deliver a message, accurately.
Today we discuss what concept words are, why they are important AND what you can do to increase understanding at home! This is the fun part! You don’t need flashcards. You don’t need apps. You already have everything you need to teach these words—just by playing, talking, and living life with your child. I am going to call attention to what you already have and know… so that you can be intentional when you are teaching them.
Always cheering you on!

Hey Friends~
BIG Feelings are so hard! It’s confusing! And sometimes really disruptive.
Give yourself grace parents, become curious.
What if we could understand how our child felt by looking at the color that they chose to wear? Wouldn’t that be amazing and helpful?!!Today’s guest decided to combine her child’s interests with colors to create a way to help him communicate better after an acquired language loss. You will learn her story and how she helped her little one regain a way to communicate better again.
Many times we as parents want to get our kids out of their icky feelings. The reality is that we want our children to walk through their feelings and to feel their feelings. This is an important part to learning self-regulation. We must allow our children to experience their feelings.
Constance Lewis shares her story and the children’s book she wrote to support all children.
Always cheering you on,
